The Victoria Chart Company Review & Giveaway Ends 3/30

reward charts for children

The Victoria Chart Company was founded by Victoria Ballard in 2004. Her son was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at 18 months old and like any parent, wanted the best for him. She discovered a reward system she had developed worked fabulously for her children. It helped build their self-esteem and made them feel proud of their progress. The system worked so well that Victoria has dedicated her time to create tools for families to help children realize the power of developmental progress that comes from the simple process of Encourage & Praise.

Today, The Victoria Chart Company is internationally recognized as a specialist in producing products for positive development in children.

As you all probably know, my daughter has Autism and ADHD. With these, come great behavior challenges. My daughter is currently in a special program at school which works with children who have behavior issues from Autism, ADHD and other disorders. In her program, they use behavior charts and it has been very effective. Knowing this, I felt it necessary to be consistent so I contacted The Victoria Chart Company to see if I would be able to review one of their charts. They happily agreed.

I finally decided to review the My Growing Up Chart.

The My Growing Up Chart comes with:

-A large wall chart to hang to monitor progress (11 inches by 25 1/2 inches high)

-10 Activity Stickers which cover activities such as: I enjoyed school, I dressed myself, I've been good a bedtime and more.

- 6 Blank Activity Stickers which can be customized to the needs of your child

-240 Colored 1-20 Stickers to help with learning colors and numbers

-84 Gold "Great Job" Star Stickers for when your child does well

-A Supportive Information Sheet with an example, tips and guidelines to help you get the best results

-Sticky Mounting Pads and a Dry-Erase Marker

I have learned that being negative in order to get my daughter to behave and follow directions simply does not work. Being positive and allowing her to receive rewards does. My daughter is a very visual child so when her chart arrived, she got excited. I opened it up and started to explain what the chart was and why we were going to use it. I was impressed not only by the quality of the chart but by everything that was included. I love when companies think of everything and include them so that the product can be used right out of the package.

The My Growing Up Chart was an excellent match for my daughter because it allows the chart to be customized for her specific needs. We did use some of the activity stickers that were included in the pack but she has specific issues that were not included so I was happy to be able to customize it for her.

Since starting to use the chart, my daughters behavior has turned around a lot. Yes, we still have a ways to go and she may always have some behavior issues but this chart has definitely been a very positive thing in our house. She loves seeing how much progress she has made and is very proud of all her stickers she's been collecting. It's been a learning journey for me as well as I've had to change the way I say things. I used to say "Don't do this or that" and now I simply say "Is that how you earn a sticker on your chart?" or something similar. This chart has been a great help in getting the negativity and arguing out of my home and turning things around to be much more positive.

I HIGHLY recommend this chart to anyone who has a child with any behavior issues. Even if your child doesn't have noticeable behavior issues, I still think this chart would be a positive way to build a childs self-esteem.
