Backing Up Your Computer is a MUST - Seagate Backup Plus 1TB Review

Backing up your computer is a must if you never want to lose important files, pictures and/or music files. I have been using computers for years and years but never backed up any of my computers before. I have had computers crash on me in the past and I have lost precious pictures and important files. It can be heartbreaking! It was always in the back of my mind to get a device to back up my computer(s) but I just never pulled the trigger and purchased one.

I recently had the chance to review a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB. From opening the package, reading the directions, connecting the device to having it back up files, literally took only a few minutes.

The box contains the device, a USB cord and directions. I was shocked at how thin and lightweight the actual device was. It would be easily be put into a purse etc for easy portability.

I tried this out on my newest laptop that has Windows 8 installed on it. I plugged the cord into the device and then into one of my laptop USB slots.

My laptop automatically started to install the device for me. It was a simple and quick process.

After the quick installation, my laptop prompted me to choose what I wanted to do with the removable drive. I chose "Configure this drive for backup".

It was a simple process to have the device start backing up my laptop. With a few clicks, I was able to turn on the File History which will save files on my laptop. I was also able to easily decide how often I wanted the device to backup when connected. I chose hourly.

On that same screen to the left, there is the option to "Restore personal files". If you ever need to restore any backed up files after a computer crash or virus, just click that and you will easily recover anything saved onto the Seagate device. It didn't take long at all to back up the files on my laptop but it's a new computer so there wasn't much to actually back up at this point. However, it backs up at a rate of 2GB per 30 seconds so even with a computer that was loaded with files, the transfer of files wouldn't take too long.

You can leave the device connected at all times and it's small enough that it wouldn't be taking up a ton of space. I have multiple computers so I will be backing up the other 2 soon.

You can also link the device to your social media accounts like Facebook so any pictures etc you have uploaded to your account, would be safely backed up as well. The device can be used on either a PC or a MAC which is awesome. It can sometimes be difficult to find electronic devices that work on both. This would be a great thing if you had both a PC and MAC in your home or work. It would save you money by not having to purchase 2 different devices.

I cannot believe how EASY backing up a computer was with this! I guess in the back of my mind, I thought it would be a long drawn out process or difficult or something. I don't know! Believe me when I tell you that this Seagate Backup Plus was ridiculously easy to install and use! I feel that it was so simple, even non tech savvy people could figure it out.

I would highly recommend this product to ANYONE who has a computer. Think of all the things you would lose if your computer suddenly crashed tomorrow! Pictures of family and friends, important documents and files, music files..the list is endless. It would be all gone! You must back up your computer so all of your files are safe no matter what happens to your computer.

The Seagate Backup Plus 1TB runs $89.99 at Staples. A small price to pay to protect all of those precious files.

Do you back up your computer? Why or why not?

It is really a must. I lost a lot of personal files when my computer got infected by a malware. I had to take it to the nearby computer repair guy a few times.
